Comfortably sheltered amidst the city’s bequest of over 100 temples, Ekamravan is the herbal medicinal garden known for its unique aesthetic heritage design adorned with a range of rare medicinal plants. The garden offers for a rendezvous with the nature to its homies!
A stroll along the banks of Bindu Sagar, takes us to Vaitala Deula, the curvilinear top of which looks akin to an upturned boat. Its gabbled towers with a row of shikaras reveals signs of southern intrusion. Once, it was the hotspot of Tantrik practices.
KORA KHAI -
A TEMPLE DELICACY
Moving ahead we explore the hidden bylanes to discover the secrets of the sweet recipes like Kora-Khai offered to the Gods. Indulge in the exotic preparation of this delicacy and have some conversation over candies ! Its not just a sweet , its a tradition that unfolds as you watch the members cook .
A beautifully restored heritage building , Bharati Matha is where serenity resides . Find a sense of calm trickling in as you explore its little chambers and tiny shrines lit with diyas by women during dusk. This is where the curators have you seated and ready for a delectable food tasting session !
ABHADA - TEMPLE MEAL
Its Abhada that calls for attention ! Dotted with dishes big and small , the Mahaprasad forms an important part of temple tradition . Stories about the food and its origins continue with the temple as the backdrop .
Once out of the heritage building, one gets a glimpse of the street market, locally named, Ratha Danda – that portrays a vivid picture of the daily activities carried out by the localites around the temple clusters.
An elevated platform like structure behind the Lingaraj Temple complex offers a panoramic view of the 100 titchy temples inside its premises. The aerial vista renders total satisfaction of relishing the architectural beauty without having to disturb the spiritual ambience inside the site
Drift around the corridors to taste some more local decilcaies like Lassi , Pan , Pithas and ofocurse bond over a cuppa chai . Closer to sunset we take the old alley that opens up to Bindusagar Lake closer to Sari Temple .
Following a slender passage along the market street, one comes into view of the remains of a 13th century built temple – Sari Deula. This architectural marvel, though in ruins, is well sought-after for its magnificent carvings and figurines.
